Six Tips for Vacuum Pump Maintenance

25-09-2024

1. Vacuum pumps avoid high temperatures

High temperatures can significantly reduce the viscosity of the vacuum pump oil, which affects the vacuum level of your equipment; high temperatures also tend to harden the cooled vacuum pump oil, which clogs the vacuum pump and reduces its performance. A well-ventilated open area will help the vacuum pump dissipate heat. If the equipment is located in an enclosed space, consider other cooling measures such as fans or air conditioners to keep the pump cool.

2. Checking the vacuum pump oil

The condition of the vacuum pump oil should be checked more frequently during the summer months and changed in accordance with the operating instructions or in a timely manner if the oil looks dirty and emits an odor. Use the sight glass on the vacuum pump for a quick visual check of the vacuum pump oil condition. Changing to new oil at the end of the season removes contaminants and provides superior protection for lubricated components.

3. Replace the vacuum pump filter in a timely manner

During the summer months, the air tends to carry more dust and particulate matter, which can accelerate the clogging of the vacuum pump's filter, thus affecting its performance. A clean filter ensures smooth airflow and reduces the risk of overheating. Therefore, filters should be inspected more frequently and replaced regularly to safeguard the smooth and efficient operation of the vacuum pump.

4. Vacuum pumps are protected against moisture

Increased humidity in the air during the summer months makes it more likely that moisture will intrude and damage the vacuum pump. Please make sure that the gas ballast valve of the vacuum pump is fully open (if equipped), or consult us to learn how to install a liquid filter to protect the vacuum pump from moisture and other contaminants.

5. Leak test the vacuum pump

During the summer months, thermal expansion can affect seals and connections. Leaks can allow air to enter the system, which can drastically reduce the efficiency and service life of the vacuum pump. During routine maintenance of your vacuum pump, perform regular leak tests to ensure that the vacuum seal is intact.

6. Visually inspect the vacuum pump

Summer heat can accelerate component wear and tear. Addressing these issues early will prevent more serious failures and ensure that your vacuum pump continues to operate efficiently. Regularly inspect the pump itself and the surrounding area, looking out for obvious signs of leaks or damage. Look for oil stains, loose connections or worn parts, all of which may be signs of potential problems.
